Remember your Pirate Stations!
Remember your Pirate Stations!
Over the years many books and articles have been written about the history of the Radio Ships and the legendary offshore radio stations they facilitated.
This is not one of those books. Nor does it pretend to give a complete summary of their history, even though you’ll find a lot of information too.
Instead each of these pictures tells its own, sometimes very personal story.
A large, unique collection of 400 never before published, high quality photographs, showing the ships and stations that were active in the 70’s in all their glory and sometimes during less glorious moments.
Inside stories about the radio stations and many details about all ships, their history and daily life of DJ's and crew on board.
Dramatic events: how some ships were beached, how gale force winds broke tall antenna masts and anchor chains, the mutiny and the hijacking of Radio Caroline. Meet Abie Nathan on his Peace Ship.
Today - in the digital age and the 40th anniversary of the end of an era - seemed like the perfect occasion to reminisce and finally share my collection. For all who, like me, still hold fond memories of those legendary ships that once inspired millions of people, rocking the airwaves.
